Batteries power more of our lives than ever before. They’re in our toys, phones, tools, scooters, tablets, headphones and countless other everyday devices.
But when batteries are damaged, improperly charged or thrown into the trash or recycling bin, they can become a serious safety hazard.
Supercharged! Batty and the Battery Rescue Team is a new children’s book created to make battery safety simple, memorable and fun — helping kids understand how to use batteries safely, recognize when something isn’t right and make sure batteries end up in the right place when they’re done.
And we believe education is one of the most powerful tools we have to create lasting change.
A BIG PROBLEM STARTS WITH SOMETHING SMALL
A battery tossed into the wrong bin may seem harmless.
But improperly discarded lithium-ion batteries can be damaged during collection and processing, creating dangerous fires in garbage trucks, recycling facilities and waste facilities. As battery-powered products become increasingly common, educating people about proper battery use and disposal is becoming increasingly important.
That education shouldn’t start after someone makes a mistake.
It should start young.
Supercharged! introduces battery safety to children in a way they can understand, remember and bring home to their families.
Because when kids learn better habits today, they can help build safer homes, safer communities and a safer waste and recycling system tomorrow.
