WHY START WITH KIDS?
Some of the most important safety habits we carry throughout our lives begin with lessons we learn when we're young.
Children are also powerful messengers. They bring what they learn at school, at the library and in their communities back home — asking questions, sharing what they know and sometimes reminding the adults around them to make safer choices, too.
By making battery safety approachable and memorable for children, we have an opportunity to reach beyond the individual reader.
One book can start a conversation.
One conversation can change a habit.
And better habits can help create safer communities.
WHAT WE’RE TEACHING
Supercharged! introduces children to practical battery safety concepts through storytelling rather than fear.
Young readers learn how to:
Batteries are everywhere.
Keep battery-powered devices away from hot places, like a car in the sun.
Batteries should be stored in a safe space where small children or pets can’t get to them.
Never put batteries in the trash or curbside recycling.

Meet the AUTHORS
RYAN FOGELMAN, J.D./MBA
Fire Protection Consultant, Fire Rover
Ryan is a fire protection consultant with Fire Rover and a passionate advocate for fire safety education. For more than a decade, he has studied fires at waste and recycling facilities across the U.S. and Canada and is the author of the annual Waste and Recycling Facility Fire Report, now in its ninth edition. He is also a frequent speaker on fire prevention, early detection, and risk mitigation. His work has earned two Edison Innovation Awards and recognition as one of Fire & Safety Journal Americas’ “Top 30 Global Fire Influencers.”
Ryan believes meaningful change starts with education. Through Supercharged!, he hopes to give kids the knowledge to recognize battery dangers, make safer choices, and build fire-safe habits that last a lifetime.

DALAN ZARTMAN, EMT-P
CEO, Energy Security Agency
Dalan is co-founder and CEO of the Energy Security Agency and a career firefighter and rescue specialist with more than 25 years of experience. For the past decade, he has focused on lithium-ion battery safety, conducting large-scale battery and electric vehicle testing and developing practical, field-tested solutions for managing battery-related risks. Through ESA, Dalan leads education, emergency response, research, testing, and consultation across industries nationwide.
Dalan believes the best way to build safer communities is to give people the knowledge to recognize risks before an emergency happens. Through Supercharged!, he hopes to make battery safety simple, memorable, and accessible to kids—empowering them to make safer choices and share what they learn with others.

Our VISION
Our vision is to put meaningful battery safety education into the hands of children in communities across the country — and ultimately around the world.
The book is where we're starting.
From there, we see opportunities for educational resources, school and library programming, community safety initiatives, industry partnerships and other tools that make battery safety easier for families to understand and practice.
Because the technology around us is changing quickly. The way we teach safety needs to keep up.
